Goal Setting Throughout Club Practices

Facilitators can also promote goal setting throughout club activities. Using a goal-setting framework might make this process easier to understand.

S.M.A.R.T. goals are frequently used to set many types of goals (Haughey, 2014). The acronym often starts for:

  • Specific

  • Measurable

  • Actionable (or assignable)

  • Realistic

  • Time-based

The SMART framework can help students frame their writing aspirations into products that are achievable in given timeframes.

P.A.C.T. goals are another goal-setting framework that might be helpful (Salmon-Stevens, 2021). This acronym stands for:

  • Purposeful

  • Actionable

  • Continuous

  • Trackable

The advantage of the PACT model is that it focuses on the motivations and repeatable progress. This framework may help students take a more process-oriented view of their writing goals.

Feedback Encouraged

Bias acknowledgement: I am a White, cisgendered, able-bodied educator from a semi-rural college in Northwest Ohio. This project is influenced by my own perspective and those I was able to seek in its development.

Please continue the conversation by leaving feedback about how the site can better promote diverse perspectives on how to create creative writing clubs that are inclusive of all people

I would love any other kind of feedback, too! I hope to continue developing this website throughout my career.
