About the Course
Interview and Introduce
Activity
This icebreaker can help students practice interviewing others and builidng connections with other members of the group. It's also a fun way to review genre conventions!
Steps:
Directions: Interview someone else, then introduce them as the main character in a story.
Guidelines:
Interviewees can decline to answer questions they are uncomfortable with
Interviewers cannot directly ask what kind of story the interviewee would like to be in!
Look to uplift your interviewee and let us know their strengths as a protagonist!
Questions to ask if you get stuck:
What kind of books/movies/games/music do you like?
What is your favorite season, and why?
How do you feel about risktaking?
What do you like to do for fun?
What are your special talents/interests?
Example:
Descriptive: Jordan approaches the plate, his eyes squinted against the sun. There's only one thing he cares to see: the ball. He's been playing baseball his entire life, and he's hoping to knock his senior year season out of the park.
Summary: This is Maria. Her curious nature, her kindness, and her knowledge of space makes her an excellent candidate for a YA science fiction novel about reconciling the difference between aliens and humanity.
